In June, Waterhouse was proud to welcome Account Manager Adrienne Terrado to our growing team. As a strategic communicator with a passion for teaching, Adrienne leverages her background in interdisciplinary science to help breathe life into both internal and external communication efforts. I sat down with Adrienne to learn more about her background, what drives her work, and why she chose to pursue a role at Waterhouse.
Thanks for joining us, Adrienne! What inspired you to join Waterhouse?
Most people enter the workforce searching for the overlap in the Venn diagram of what they like and what they’re good at, and a science-minded agency was the perfect environment for me to do just that.
Even as I was interviewing with Waterhouse, I was pretty taken aback by their strong culture of feedback and valuing opinions over hierarchy. For me, there’s no better way to learn than to have a supportive team that trusts you to own projects and is quick to provide constructive feedback to help you ideate and iterate for the better each time. Couple this peek into Waterhouse’s healthy work environment with the extraordinary brand activation case studies on their website, and I was sold.
Tell me more about your role and what unique traits you bring to the Waterhouse team.
As an Account Manager, I’m excited to leverage my background in healthcare, biotech, and teaching to help facilitate the conversations that drive client success. There are many more questions than there are answers in science, and I’ve found throughout my career that translating this for all stakeholders requires creativity, time and a knack for streamlining processes. Whether analyzing engagement metrics, determining what language best fits a presentation or engaging in creative thought partnership, I look forward to building communication bridges to help our clients effectively tell their stories.
What previous experience and unique qualities do you bring to this role?
My main governing approach to everything is to be skeptical about what I think I know and relentlessly curious about what I don’t know. I took so many courses in college that I could have completed basically any major in the biological sciences, and after graduating, I worked in emergency services, research, and undergraduate teaching while taking online courses in data science and UX/UI. I used to see this as a crutch – that I couldn’t focus and strengthen one singular area of expertise – but now I realize that it perfectly prepared me for my career. My accidental interdisciplinary training helps me communicate with broader audiences, think outside of the box, and be comfortable in the uncomfortable.
In my most recent role as Account Manager for Canale Communications in San Diego, I was involved in the ideation and execution of multiple projects that straddled the creative and communications departments. Utilizing my background in science, I provided insight and consultation on communication strategies across social media, websites, employee recruitment, client calls, and other efforts to help keep the train moving forward. I look forward to putting these skills to work at Waterhouse!
The Lightning Round
What is your dream job?
In an ideal world, my chosen profession would be a lifelong medical student. Unfortunately, that path is impossible and makes little financial sense.
If you were trapped on a desert island, what three books would you bring?
I’d bring the longest, largest book ever to have ample paper for kindling, and then Behave by Robert Sapolsky, and Misbehaving by Richard Thaler.
A warm welcome to Adrienne on behalf of everyone at Waterhouse Brands!
